Nerja
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Sierra de Tejeda Mountains, it’s got some lovely Blue Flag beaches (with lots of water sports) plus some nice little rocky coves. With around 365 bars and restaurants, it still retains its charm and genuine Spanish character. The focal point of the town is a magnificent marble-paved promenade, Le Balcón de Europa, which juts out on a rocky outcrop between two bays. Stroll here for stunning views, street entertainers and irresistible ice cream. Nearby, you can venture into the famous Cuevas de Nerja to see prehistoric cave paintings and the longest stalactites in the world – all 63m long.
