CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR BREAKS

Magic of Malta

The enchanting island of Malta, situated in the heart of the Mediterranean, has an enviable sub-tropical climate which makes this an ideal destination to celebrate the Christmas festivities. This compact and colourful island has an absorbing history and fascinating culture. The beautiful capital of Valletta, built on a finger of land between two vast natural harbours, has some of the island’s best preserved architecture. The distinctive landscape provides a wealth of contrasts from the rugged coastline of the north shores to the scenic bays and sandy beaches in the south where the fishermen still follow the traditions of bygone days. We have selected the 4-star (local rating) Golden Tulip Vivaldi Hotel, centrally located, in the lively part of town, and ideally situated for easy exploration of the island.

Valletta • St. Julians • Mdina • Rabat • The Three Cities

DAY 1 LONDON • MALTA
We begin with Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service™ to London Gatwick Airport and your direct scheduled British Airways flight, operated by the independent carrier GB Airways to Malta. On arrival you will be transferred to the Golden Tulip Vivaldi Hotel, our base for the next seven nights.

DAY 2 VALLETTA
After a leisurely breakfast, the morning is free and is followed by an afternoon tour through the bustling streets of Valletta, Malta’s attractive 16th century capital. We start with a visit to the Barracca Gardens that command a breathtaking panorama of Grand Harbour. We continue to St John’s Cathedral, adorned in riches that date back to the time of the Knights of Malta and then to the Grand Master’s Palace, where there is time to see the staterooms. Lastly we visit the “Malta Experience”, an audio visual show which depicts Malta’s history through the ages. This evening, why not venture into St. Julians where you can experience some of Malta’s finest restaurants serving a variety of seafood, pasta and traditional Maltese cuisine.

DAY 3 MDINA • RABAT
This morning we embark on a journey to the central region of Malta. The walled city of Mdina, dominated by the ancient citadel has a unique atmosphere and as we pass through the narrow streets we can admire the magnificent cathedral and imposing bastions that command a magnificent view over most of the island. Through the “Greek Gate” we enter the suburb of Rabat with a short stop at the catacombs before proceeding to the cliffs at Dingli. After lunch we visit the botanical gardens of San Anton and Mosta’s parish church renowned for its imposing dome. Finally, we arrive at the craft centre of Ta’Qali, where there is time for shopping.

DAY 4 ST. JULIANS - CHRISTMAS EVE
This morning is free for any last-minute Christmas shopping or for a quiet stroll along the picturesque waterfront bay of St. Julians. There will also be an opportunity for you to take a short optional harbour cruise. In addition to the street lights and Christmas trees, the Maltese specialise in the construction of cribs - some mechanised - and this afternoon we take a tour to view these. We return to our hotel this evening for a Gala dinner. For those wishing to participate in the Christmas Eve celebrations, your tour manager will have details of the services held at the local churches.

DAY 5 ST. JULIANS - CHRISTMAS DAY
The whole day is free to enjoy the festive spirit at your hotel. After a leisurely morning a festive Christmas Day lunch can be enjoyed, after which you may wish to stroll along the waterfront of St. Julians Bay, where you will be able to see an attractive array of fishing boats. This evening, dinner will be at your hotel.

DAY 6 ST. JULIANS - BOXING DAY
Today, why not take the optional tour to one of the sister islands, Gozo, the legendary island of the Goddess Calypso, which is only a short boat journey from the north of the island. Alternatively you may wish to relax and enjoy the comfort and facilities at your hotel. Dinner is served at the hotel this evening.

DAY 7 THE THREE CITIES
We commence our tour to discover the ancient harbour towns known as The Three Cities. Cospicua, the youngest of the three, is our first stop after which we continue to the city of Vittoriosa. Entering through the “Three Gates” our walking tour takes us along the narrow shaded streets where many eye-catching historical buildings and churches can be admired. The last of these great towns is Senglea and from the “Vadette” there are wonderful panoramic views over Grand Harbour to Valletta, which emphasises the strategic importance of the area. Travelling on, later in the day, we visit the fishing villages of Marsaxlokk and Birzebbugia. We stop for lunch at a traditional fish restaurant before visiting the Tarxien Temples, a group of three temples that due to their excellent preservation, provide evidence of ancient artistic skills. Our day concludes with a guided visit through the cave of Ghar Dalam, one of the first habitats of these islands.

DAY 8 MALTA • LONDON
Today you are transferred to Malta International Airport for your direct scheduled flight to London. Arrival at London Gatwick Airport where our staff will greet you and transfer you to Titan transport for the return journey to your own front door.
