Lying at the southern tip of the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated area of outstanding beauty, Horncastle is an attractive market town situated mid way between the cathedral city of Lincoln and the east coast. The town gets its name from the anglo-saxon word Hyrnecastre, meaning a fort in a corner. The Romans built a fort in the town and remains of the wall can be viewed around Horncastle today. Famed as one of the best towns in the UK for antiques, with around two dozen antique and collector dealers, young and old alike take pleasure in browsing the eclectic array of treasures from yesteryear.
